For our minor program International Entrepreneurship and Development at the TU Delft we, Line, Christine and Coco, will represent Muima in Kenya from October 2018 to February 2019. We will design a new product and implement a new plastic recycling technique in the factory. We want to create possibilities to make more products out of plastic waste. This way, we try to contribute in solving the plastic problem in Kenya!

During the beginning of this week we had to wait for Mukanda to finish the design for the mould. Because of this, we had time to start with the design of the new machine. That is why we went to the factory in Mumias, to discuss all the possibilities with Wilson and to consult him about which method he liked the most. After he gave us his advice, we went to the local markets to see which products are available here and what the prices are. We are very excited to buy these parts and build the new machine in the factory, since we are confident about our current idea!

On Wednesday evening the Bisschop and his family invited us to have dinner with them at their home. They prepared a lovely dinner for us with all our favorite Kenyan food.  We felt very welcome and through this dinner we have experienced a real Kenyan family.

After  Mukanda finished his design of the mould on Thursday, we had an appointment with Wilson and Mukanda in Kakamega. Mukanda showed us his design of the mould and we have discussed the  possibilities for the connections between the parts. There were some calculations that had to be changed in his model and because of this we will meet Mukanda again in Mumias next week. After that, we can finally let the machines start building the mould!!

Since the appointment was in Kakamega, we could travel further to Kisumu (win win). In Kisumu we were very lucky, because immediately after waking up we saw the hippo’s in Lake Victoria! We also did a lovely boat trip across the lake. Here we saw many more of these beautiful animals!
